The ancient Cynics would mock the rich and then beg them for food. They couldn’t exist without the conventional people they so derided, and freedom at the expense of others is not really freedom. Maybe they (and their successors) should have taken a moment to question their beliefs, rather than blindly (and self-righteously) following along…
