Eye, as we learn, is the most complex organ in our body. The human eye works much like a camera in a number of ways, like, for example:
- The shutter in a camera works the same way as the pupil in the human eye; they both control the amount of light that enters through the lens.
- Film in a camera can record the image captured through the lens. Similarly, in the eye, the image is focused right on the retina, etc.
Despite the fact that there are so many similarities between the human eye and a camera, our eyes do not always capture things as a camera would. Well, if you ever wanted to know how differently they work, this TedED video – Eye Vs Camera – by vision scientist Michael Bach, sketches out the similarities and differences between your eye and a video camera.

The macro images are always amazing, more than eyes can capture.

As a filmmaker I found it fascinating the first time I learned that both cameras and the human eye “white balance” for the primary source of light–especially noticeable when tungsten (which we perceive as yellow) and sunlight (which we perceive as blue) are visible at the same time.

If only we had the ability to zoom in. ๐

Film in the camera? Huh? While some of us still use film for certain projects, the largest proportion of the population do not. Digital photography uses a sensor. Using the word film tells me this is just another general purpose TED talk that has little meaning in real life. Sorry.

You’re right, sir. Well, TED didn’t use it but I did for the sake of comparison. Also, this is one of the TedEd general video lessons, not the actual TED Talk. TED Talks and TedEd lessons are vastly different from one another. Anyway, thanks for the comment; I hope to hear much more from you in the future. ๐

The human eye is amazing. Without the human eye the camera would not have even been invented.
