Illusion means overrefinement of the senses. Illusions may occur with any of the human senses, but vision often dominates the other senses and an illusion that is something to do with visual sense is known as optical illusion. For optical illusions, information gathered by the eye is processed in the brain to give a perception that does not tally with a physical measurement of the stimulus source.
Earlier, I shared a video on optical illusion: Resonance Experiment: Fun With Chladni Patterns where the sand-covered surface is made to vibrate and the sands get collected in the region that has least motion which gives rise to simple-to-complex geometrical patterns depending on the intensity of frequency.
The video below is another awesome compilation of optical illusions from a YouTube user brusppup which includes the previously shared Chladni patterns or Chladni’s figures.
Your blog is responsible for my not getting any painting done. Please stop making it so damned interesting!

I couldn’t find anywhere to put this thank you note or at least nowhere simple to access – but then that’s Scientists for you – they always over complicate things!
Thanks for your expressed like of my 0045 and if you really liked that one, you ought to look at my 0041 – now that will make your eyes water. I put 0041 up on a real highbrow online international Physics forum and they bit hard – I couldn’t believe the seriousness that people took it to be nor the comments people threw onto it!!!

Fun to watch, these are explainable optical illusions, right–key word is explainable.
As I watched, some inverse concept seemed to tug at the edges of my thoughts…portals in nature that exist beyond what is explainable…but we do happen upon them…we all have experienced the unexplainable–out on a walk sometime, somewhere–just beyond the edge of that noise that comes from urban life.
Is there a spark on it? 😉

There’s a spark on everything. Well, that guy did some major tweaks on illusions and he has all explanation. That’s what I like about backyard scientists. 🙂
