Make An Intergalactic Trip To Milky Way In Specztaculer 360-Degree Panorama

Aren’t you just curious to see the whole package of the universe? NASA has the perfect solution for you. Now, you can finally make an intergalactic trip right from your desk, lost in the enormous expanse of the Milky Way.

NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope has been collecting more than two millions infrared images (like the one above) of our galaxy over the last decade. These collected images have been stitched together by a team of Wisconsin scientists to make a spectacular 360-degree portrait of the Milky Way.

The composite image was compiled by Barbara Whitney, astronomer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her team, it was unveiled at TEDActive 2014 Conference in Vancouver, Canada. The project is known as GLIMPSE360 (Galactic Legacy Infrared Midplane Survey Extraordinaire) and what you will be seeing is the most detailed infrared panorama of the Milky Way ever captured.

“If we actually printed this out, we’d need a billboard as big as the Rose Bowl Stadium to display it. Instead we’ve created a digital viewer that anyone, even astronomers, can use.” says Robert Hurt, who is an imaging specialist at NASA’s Spitzer Space Science Center.
