With skyrocketed advancement in technology, our presumption about the future may come off quite contrastingly. Many drones and other unnumberable machines useful for tactical reconnaissance missions have been built and with this, the expectation about the future of the military is beyond our analytical scope.
During the recent demonstration of autonomous weaponized robots at Ford Benning, Georgia, Scott Hartley, co-founder of 5D Robotics said that ten years from now, there would probably be one soldier for every 10 robots. Each soldier could have one or five robots flanking him, looking for enemies, scanning for land mines. This event was done along with some other notable robotics corporations like Northrop Grumman, QinetiQ and HDT Robotics.
These armed robots are programmed to save lives and to help soldiers survive in a hostile environment. But, be noted: they are also programmed-killing-machines.
Both autonomous and remote controlled robots were taken part in the demonstration and they were required to accurately fire the heavy M240 machine gun at ranges of up to 800m. Some robots are also made to use M2 Browning 0.50 Caliber Machine Gun, the MK19 Grenade Launcher and the FGM-148 Javelin.

Frankly, I’m appalled.
This simply means that rich countries may now wage wars in nearly every corner of the world with minimal political cost back home. The lives of their own citizens will be spared, but the machines they’ll be deploying will be killing real flesh-and-blood people who will have to slug it out the old fashioned way, because they won’t have the means for robot soldiers.
I much prefer old Asimof’s robots whose first principle was “A robot may not harm a human being.”

Yeah, this will even be more life-threatening than drones and drones have claimed countless number of innocent lives. Some of the robots are autonomous, they may even look forward to develop fully self-awared robots which could even result in ultimate destruction.

Looks like this next century may be a lot like the ones that came before, just with more weapons.

Do we really need more killing machines?

We really don’t. We don’t even need weapons. Making something like this is their urge of showing off their capability, just because they can.
